GLA:D Canada (TM) is a neuromuscular facilitation and strengthening program developed to address the pain and disability caused by osteoarthritis of the knees and hips.
This 6-week program includes 12 exercise and 2 education classes designed to decreased pain and increase function of patients diagnosed with osteoarthritis. The exercises classes focus on strengthening and correcting movement patterns to maximize the joint function. Education focuses on what you need to know to have control over the pain in joints, and to teach you strategies to minimize progression and pain.
This program is run in a small group format. Not only does this allow you to get support and knowledge from others going through the same difficulties, it reduces the cost. This makes it more affordable to seniors who often have osteoarthritis looking to reduce the cost of treatment. Initially developed based on successes in Denmark, research has shown that graduates from this program report less pain, reduced use of pain killers and achieve greater physically activity.
