What do we Mean by "Neck Pain and Headaches"?

The things that we do today cause a lot of stress on our neck, including driving, computer work and using your smartphone.  Neck pain can vary greatly in presentation.   Some clients wake in the morning and are not able to move their head at all.   Some have tightness and stiffness that varies day to day but is slowly increasing over time.   And yet others do not have any pain in their necks but complain of pain in their arms or frequent or perpetual headaches.   Stiffness, tension and lack of movement in the neck is not normal and can respond well to physiotherapy or chiropractic treatment.

Many headache and migraine sufferers can also benefit from treatment.   Appropriate techniques can help to reduce and control the symptoms, causing reduced frequency and severity of headaches and other symptoms.    A careful and thorough assessment should reveal if treatment would be helpful and what you can do to try to reduce and control your episodes.

What can be Done?

Treatment will often vary depending on what the assessment reveals as the cause of the pain.

Symptom control is done via modalities, acupuncture, massage and gentle manual treatment.   These techniques are used to make you feel better immediately and get you back to work and the life you enjoy.

Osteopathic treatment can also be effective in reducing the frequency and intensity headaches, including migraines and tension headaches.

Exercise and deeper manual techniques are used to address the cause of the problem by increasing strength and mobility to improve posture and movement patterns.

Education is always a critical part of the approach at Physio Sport Med of Oakville.  It is important to us that you understand your body, so you have control over the pain.
