Sport and Exercise Medicine Physicians specialize in providing diagnosis, investigation and management of musculoskeletal injury as well as chronic problems relating to muscles, bones and joints. They have taken advanced training to manage physical issues as they pertain to sport and general movement. The gamut runs from acute sport injuries (such as a torn ACL of the knee) to arthritis. They work collaboratively with a high-level team of practitioners at Physio Sport Med to coordinate care and return the patient to an active lifestyle.
Our team of physicians are MD graduates with training in family medicine along with a further sub-specialty training in sport and exercise medicine. They are specialists in non-surgical management of issues pertaining to bones and joints, including disruptive injuries, sprains, strains, arthritis, and back pain. They provide medical services including testing (e.g. blood tests, X-rays, MRIs etc.), injections (cortisone, hyaluronic acid and PRP) and referrals to a surgeon or other specialty if needed. A Sport Medicine Physician may bridge the gap between your family doctor and an orthopedic surgeon.
At our clinic the physicians also provide concussion management and return to play clearance.
They provide PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) treatments as well as prescribe braces and orthotics.
A referral from your family physician is desirable so your doctor can keep up to date with your current health issues. Our physician will send a consult letter to your family doctor, if you are referred in to one of our physicians.
